Name: Lark
Breed: Tobiano Paint/Thoroughbred, Sex: Gelding
History and Description: Lark is an eight year old dark Bay Tobiano Paint/Thoroughbred type Gelding. He has gone blind in his right eye from an untreated injury. The lady that rescued him is a good friend of mine. She was told that his eye would get better with meds. When he arrived he was underweight and going blind. They literally rode the hair off his back. He has a scar that appears to have been done by another horse. When he first arrived and now when he is wet you can see the teeth impressions. My friend spent over $500.00 to try to fix his eye. We have had two different vets look at his eye and both said he had a trauma induced cataract. From the look of the scarring on his eye both vets said the blindness would have been prevented IF they would have treated the injury when it happened. He is VERY ear shy, but if you work slowly and confidently, he will allow you to put his halter on and off. You can put a blanket and/or sheet over his head. He clips, except his ears, again if you work patiently with him. Bathes are not his favorite thing. He will load right into a trailer with no problem, day or night. He stands tied very well. This horse has been manhandled, but is learning to trust again and is ready to start bonding with his next person. He would make a great English 4-H prospect for a young person ready to move up. He is a beautiful mover. Needs an experienced home. Contract is a lifetime.

Name: Jet
Breed: Quarter Horse, Sex: Mare
History and Description: She stands about 15.1 and was also foaled in 2000. STOUT made girl with a really pretty head and neck. Smart mare, very people oriented, and gets along great with other horses. BEAUTIFUL MOVER. I really think she could be any discipline you asked her to be. Has been ridden but sells as green due to never having had time to finish her. I have also never bred her but think she'd make beautiful foals. I bought her as a two year old no one had ever touched. Spent a lot of time with her on up to getting her broke just after she turned four (waited a little longer as she spent her first two years doing nothing at all). She was doing great, no buck no rear, but I had to put her on the back burner when I started working crazy night time hours as a 911 dispatcher. She has always acted sane under saddle and has absolutely wonderful ground manners, I would let anyone handle her on the ground for any reason i.e. grooming, farrier visits, bathing, lunging, trailering, veterinary care, etc.... She has a small scar on her back right pastern that has been there since I bought her but has never given her any problems, vet looked at it when I purchased her and said she is fine so she is sound. Scar is likely result of a cut that was never doctored, but not one deep enough to cause any issues.
She was originally sold on a lease to purchase agreement but was repossessed due to lack of payment as well as poor care of the horse. When we picked her up she was very underweight, covered in cuts (all have healed now and left no scars), and was also missing chunks of mane and tail (which are growing back nicely). The person who was keeping her had her for 6 or 7 months and ,after only having her back for almost two months, she is back at her normal weight and looking great as you can see from her pictures which were taken a week ago. I do not know if the person who had leased her rode her while they had her (their intent was to use her to sort cows with) but she has been ridden only once since I got her back. Did very well until the gentleman riding her let her get nose to nose with another mare over a fence line and she did rear but I cannot entirely blame that incident on Jet. We also didn't lunge her or do any kind of groundwork with her we quite literally just brushed her off and saddled her up in the pasture to see what she would do. She crossed water for the first time that I know of that day and didn't balk at all and did well until the fence line issue. We continued riding her after the fact and she acted as though nothing happened, no further incidents. I've run through her groundwork a few times since getting her back and she doesn't seem to have forgotten a thing. Everything I did with her on the ground was meant to emulate things that would be asked of her under saddle so she shouldn't really be much trouble to finish, just needs the miles. I've never pushed her for much she's really only been at a walk trot.
Someone with the time to put into her could have a really great horse, but you can see why selling her has been a challenge as she is 9 and I can only call her green. She has been restarted nearly annually but I've just never been able to consistently ride her enough to finish her and can no longer afford her. My other horse is already broke to death so that makes Jet the first logical horse to be sold and I've wasted enough of her time. I'd like to see someone buy her who can utilize her potential. I've had teenagers make offers on her that were just not experienced enough riders for her so I couldn't in good conscience sell her to them for fear they'd get hurt and maybe even take it out on the horse by off loading her any old place to be rid of her, there's been a few more backyard type breeders that just didn't sit well with me as good homes for her, and then there has been all the tire kickers so I appreciate you sitting through my lengthy reply and spreading the word about her. I have attached three photos of her. If you would like others or have any other questions about her just let me know.
Adoption Fee and Conditions: $1000 for this mare but her biggest concern is A GOOD HOME

FREE to Responsible Owner - Permanent Adoption
Adopted!!!!
RECEIVED VIA EMAIL AND POSTED.
Name: Rose
Breed: Saddlebred, Sex: Mare
History and Description: 16-yr-old Saddlebred mare in need of help
Hi.
My husband and I have become the "accidental" owners of a horse that we cannot use and now cannot afford to keep. She is a former 5-gaited show horse, and, we are told, is not suitable for trails (though she is older now and we have never tried). She has foundered in the past, but fully recovered. For the last year has had an issue with a bad toe crack in her RF hoof, but it is growing out, and a good farrier has been working on her. Within 2 or 3 months I believe she will not require a shoe on that foot anymore. She is currently on 100% pasture, but has been dropping weight at a surprising rate recently. She most likely needs supplemental feed.
She is a very sweet horse on the ground, VERY friendly and likes people, children, and other horses. She is nervous if kept alone. We have put our 2 1/2 yr old on her bareback and she doesn't mind a bit being led around toting him on her back.
We were sort of "forced" into taking her, and now do not have the resources to keep her, as we have been out of a job since December, and have two small children to care for (2 1/2 yrs and 6 mos). PLEASE help us out and take this horse. She may be useful as a rehab horse or a companion for other horses. She gets along well and I have never known her to fight any other horses. She very much likes company.
Thanks in advance for your help

Name: Suerte
Breed: Paso Fino, Sex: Gelding
History and Description: Suerte is a 6 year old Paso Fino gelding. He was originally rescued off a feed lot in Canada as a 2 year old. He found a wonderful new home, but then began having problems. He developed a weeping sore on his belly, foundered, lost weight, muscle tone, and co-ordination. So he found his way to us.
While we were fearing a neurological condition, we soon found that his problem was an allergic reaction to his diet. After switching him off of alfalfa hay he's turned into a new horse. He's regained his weight (actually is a very easy keeper), his co-ordination, and muscle tone, the sore healed, and he hasn't had any more problems with his feet.
Suerte has not yet been started under saddle. He leads, is good with having his feet done, and okay to deworm.
He would make an excellent trail horse. He is very energetic, and loves to play.
Adoption Fee and Conditions: Adoption fee: $800
Must fill out adoption application that includes a home check. Prefer a home in Arizona

My place is safe; my horses (2 Arabs) are happy; I do equine massage and am a Registered VetTech.

Valley View, TX horses for adoption
Hi:
For those of you interested in more information about this group, please read below. I've had many inquiries, and this may save much time. We ask that anyone interested in adopting go to our website at www.hsnt.org and download, print, and fill out an equine adoption application, which can be found under the "services" tab. Mail or fax it back to HSNT attn Sandy and I will call you asap to discuss adoption, transport, etc.
There are approximately 10 or 12 weanlings, at least two pretty buckskins, a couple palominos, a black or two, and the balance sorrels. There are 10 or 12 two and three year olds, all will be fantastic ranch horses, two bay colts, a cremello filly about 2 yrs, three or four palomino colts and a palomino filly or two about 2 yrs old.
Their bloodlines are rare these days, and while none can be registered, this has been a "closed herd" for nearly 30 years, with 3 main stallions, each with their own group of mares. For those folks who insist on registration papers, these horses aren't for you. I don't think there will be any DNA or blood-typing results on file for the ancestors of these horses. However, I've been wrong before!
The buckskin mare "Bucky" is a special case, while she is extremely pretty and incredibly athletic, she has shown some aggression to people, with one serious injury already. We are indebted to Dale Moulton of Thrive Feed, who is working with her to make her safe for adoption, and he has been able to halter her, work her in the round pen and trim her feet with quiet success. She has come a long way since 2 weeks ago. She will need a very experienced home.
We have a copy of both sides of their pedigrees, and some of the names on the pedigree are Flit, Flit Bar, Three Bars, Wimpy, Joe Reed, Old Sorrel, Smoky, Bobby McCue, etc.
These horses have excellent bone, thick, stout, and strong. Excellent feet, and are quiet minded like the ranch horses of the old days. If you can give up something on the "streamlined looks" department and you appreciate the sturdy and practical build of the working horses of the 40's and 50's, you will love these horses.
Very few have been handled at all, and only two that we know of are halter broke. For a good horseman, this is a positive thing, as none have been "ruined" by bad or improper handling or training. They are "blank pages" and just need a good start. We are in the process of worming them all, as they all have a heavy parasite load. All have a negative coggins.
Adoption fee is negotiable, we try to recoup some expenses, however if a horse has an opportunity for a good home and the adoption fee is an obstacle, it is more than negotiable. We usually try to ask 100-300 for each horse.
They are currently housed in Sanger, Texas.
Thank you all for your interest!

Name: Amigo

Breed: Mustang, Sex: Gelding
History and Description: Amigo is a BLM mustang, age 8, gelded. As you can see he was in sad shape when he arrived here. The two pics showing him with his winter coat were taken 12/10/09, showing his improvement.
He is still mustang shy, but can be handled easily enough, and can be ridden, although he is considered very green.
We will continue to work with him and by spring he should be trail ready.
Update: I worked with Amigo yesterday, and I am encouraged by his progress. Both front hooves have been trimmed, for the second time. Still working on being able to trim his back hooves, but he will let me pick them up with a 1 inch thick cotton rope.
He has really put on some weight and I can no longer see or feel his backbone, in fact, I am eager to get a saddle on him again, after some more work in the round pen.
Someone needs to claim this horse BEFORE we get attached to him.
Adoption Fee and Conditions: Along with Amigo, Jerry, and Spice, I am willing to do some horse trading with him.
We are incorporated, and we have applied for non-profit status. We need a tractor with a box blade and bucket, and a brush hog. We need farm supplies (fence panels, wooden posts, feed troughs, sheds, etc).
If anyone is interested in these horses, let us know and let's do some horse trading.
