Name: Jerry
Breed: Burro, Sex: Stallion
History and Description: Jerry came to us along with Amigo and Lancer. He is approximately eighteen months of age. He has not been gelded.
Jerry is very gentle and like a puppy; he can be ornery, and fun to be around.
We intend to train him in every way we would train a horse, but like Amigo, Lancer, and Spice, the sooner we can place them, the sooner we can rescue others like them.
Adoption Fee and Conditions: Along with Amigo, Lancer, and Spice, I am willing to do some horse trading with him.
We are incorporated, and we have applied for non-profit status. We need a tractor with a box blade and bucket, and a brush hog. We need farm supplies (fence panels, wooden posts, feed troughs, sheds, etc).
If anyone is interested in these horses, let us know and let's do some horse trading.

Name: Bits of Spice
Breed: Thoroughbred, Sex: Mare
History and Description: Bits of Spice is an off the track thoroughbred (OTTB). Although Spice was never actually raced, she is bred through and through with greatness. Like her grandfather, Seattle Slew, she is "high-spirited," and has lots of attitude. She is six years old, and has never been bred. As mentioned above Seattle Slew is Spice's grandfather, and back several generations ran Man 'O War, and this big girl knows it. She thinks she's all that, and she might be all that. Click here for her pedigree.
Adoption Fee and Conditions: This horse is rife with potential. I think she's worth a brand new combine, but I'd settle for a good used farm tractor. Let's talk horse trading. Cash is always good too and that's negotiable as well.

Name: Lancer

More information can be found at: http://www.2ndchancemini-ranch.com/lancer.html
Breed: Mustang, Sex: Gelding
History and Description: History and Description: Lancer is a twelve year old mustang gelding. He's about 13 hands high, mustang shy, but can be caught and handled to a limited degree.
The last time I worked with him he let me hold his head in my arms and scratch and rub him all over his head, face, mouth, chin, etc. In other words, he's learning to trust people and that we can be pleasant companions.
He has never been ridden, although I had a saddle blanket on him the other day.
His hooves have never been touched. That will be a non-issue within the month, as his foundation training will begin in a few days. By the end of January his hooves will be trimmed and he will be under saddle.
We've only been waiting for him to gain enough weight for me to work with him. He's done that and he's ready for training.
Update: I worked with Lancer for about three hours yesterday. Results: his mane and tail are trimmed, and all four hooves have been held in my hand.
Stay tuned, I will provide updates as I work with him.
Oh, one more thing, although I haven't measured him yet, he is probably no more than 12 hands high, according to the third button on my shirt.
He is going to make a great "little" trail horse for a smaller person.

Available for ADOPTION NOW - from NY Horse Rescue
This is from the New York Horse Rescue website. They need to find homes for 2 horses (THE OTHERS HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!!) ASAP.
If you see a horse that may interest you, please email or call us at 631.874.9420.
Please read the Adoption Agreement.
Lee Stewart
2004 Bay Thoroughbred Gelding
16h
10 starts, 2 wins, $85,569 lifetime earnings
Lee Stewart is a very handsome, athletic horse. He is new to NYHR and has fit in nicely. He suffered an injury to his right front suspensory ligament but he is healing very nicely. His prognosis is good and with a little time he will make a very athletic horse. His potential is unlimited. He is kind and a pleasure to work with and is sound enough for full pasture turn out. He has a great pedigree with Pleasant Colony on his top side and Northern Dancer on his bottom side.
ADOPT
Exalted Cat - ADOPTED!!!
2002 Dark Bay or Brown Thoroughbred Gelding
16h
18 starts, $85,005 lifetime earnings
Donated in October 2007, Exalted Cat has been a resident of NYHR for too long. Exalted Cat was a decent racehorse earning all of his money on the turf. He is another one of our horses with a splendid pedigree; Storm Cat on the top and Seattle Slew on the bottom. Ex-Cat is a NYHR favorite. He is sound and is a ready for a new career as a pleasure horse. Although we will be sad to see him move on to a new home, Ex-Cat deserves someone to love him and bring out his potential as a riding horse.
ADOPT
Motor West
2004 Bay Thoroughbred Gelding
16.2 1/2h
11 starts, $44,456 lifetime earnings
Motor West is a big, well balanced gelding. His racing career was ended because of two fractured carpal bones (knees). He is pasture sound and would love a new life as a light riding horse or pasture pet! Motor West’s pedigree includes Gone West (Mr. Prospector) on the top and Secretariat on the bottom. Although his injuries have healed, life as a pasture pet or light riding horse would be appropriate.
ADOPT
Magical Lady Luck - ADOPTED!!!
1998 Bay Standardbred Mare
15.1h
Magical Lady Luck is a very well built mare. She is a true ‘tank’ with substantial bone. After a race career Magical Lady Luck was retired to the breeding shed where she had several foals. Her kind owners decided to retire her from breeding and made the decision to donate her to NYHR in hopes of finding their beloved mare a forever home. Lady is a nice mare who should transition well into life as a riding horse. She is sound and is injury free. In general, Standardbreds make nice saddle horses.
ADOPT
Say Handsome - ADOPTED!!!
2006 Chestnut Gelding
15.2h
Unraced
This cute chestnut was donated to NYHR before even starting his race career. His kind owners felt that Say Handsome just wasn't cut out to be a racehorse. Say Handsome is a very cute horse. His bloodlines go back to Phone Trick (Clever Trick) on the topside and Hoist the Flag (Tom Rolfe) on the bottom. Say Handsome is sound a ready to begin a life as a pleasure horse. Mild cribber.
ADOPT
Yankee Threads - ADOPTED!!!
2005 Dark Bay or Brown Thoroughbred Gelding
16h+h
2 starts, $162 lifetime earnings
Yankee Threads is a beautiful geldings with an impressive build. Going back to Saint Ballado (Halo) on his topside and Bold Ruler on his bottom side, this gelding has some of the most impressive Thoroughbred bloodlines. Looking remarkably like his stunning sire, Saint Ballado, Yankee Threads has a big barrel and decent bone. Yankee Threads was retired from racing due to a fractured sesamoid. His prognosis is excellent and given time to heal he should become a very nice riding horse.

Name: Nicholas
Sorry I don't have very good pictures of Nick. My last camera was lost before I uploaded all of my pictures(I will never make that mistake again!). I will try to take some more even though he's just a fuzzball right now.
He is fairly refined for a gelding and has a great face(the first thing about him that I fell in love with). He has nice confirmation and is a pleasure to watch.
Breed: Thoroughbred, Sex: Gelding
History and Description: Nicholas is an attractive 16.2 hand 5 year old Bay TB gelding. When his racing career ended, Nicholas was abandoned in a field. He was picked up by a TB rescue, but unfortunately the person who adopted him didn’t treat him much better. When she ran into money troubles her horses were once again left in a neglectful situation. When I adopted him, Nick was pretty underweight, but he was still perky and I fell in love with him right away. He gained all the weight back within a month at his new home, but was still given a little over a year to recuperate and just be a horse. He has been an easy keeper and we have no problems keeping the weight on. From the beginning he has been a pocket pony. He is curious and loves attention. His only personality quirk is that he is a light cribber when he gets bored. We use a miracle collar on him and that takes care of it. When he is in training this habit disappears.
When we began training this past fall I realized how much Nick just loves having a job. He is a quick learner and has tons of promise. He can walk, trot, canter, and navigate courses of single ground poles and cavallettis. He is a nice mover and I have no doubt will improve as he becomes more balanced and fit. We even took him over a few little cross rails. He was perfectly willing. Nick hasn’t been ridden this winter, but I am getting him back into work as the weather allows so that he will be ready to go to his next home. Nick needs someone who has the time to put into his training. He is ready to start his career. Nicholas will be able to do anything from pleasure, to trails to the hunt ring. Nothing we have done so far has pushed his physical limitations in the least. Although he is green now I think he will be a great teacher of children one day.
Adoption Fee and Conditions: Free to a GOOD home.

Name: Lady and her Baby
Breed: Tennessee Walkers, Sex: Mare with foal
History and Description:
LADY AND HER BABY
TENNESSEE WALKERS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
My name is Tricia Spencer. I am an artist and I love to paint outside working from life. One day I went out with one of my art students and we began to paint on this lovely piece of land by one of the creeks in Scott County. We decided to take a break and went for a walk along the creek when we discovered Lady and her Baby. They were in a small pen with very little food without access to water. The farm was beautiful with two pastures and a pond between them, but the fences were broken. There did not seem to be anyone around. Later that afternoon the owner showed up and wanted to know what we were doing on the land and when he saw we were artists he was very happy to have us painting on his farm. I asked him about the horses and he told me that they had belonged to his granddaughter and she had passed away in a car accident and he was now responsible for them. He asked if I would like to help him with his horses. He was not physically able to care for them and I agreed.
I contacted Vickie Parker at Riding for Hope at the Kentucky Horse Park and we were able to organize several volunteers and fixed one of the pastures in one day which was full of beautiful grass with a spring fed pond which gave them to water. I also contacted one of the veterinarians from Rood and Riddle Vet Clinic. She examined them. They were sorely in need of food and water and needed to be wormed which I did. She also confirmed that they are Tennessee Walkers. Lady is 15 ½ hands and the foal is approximately 1 ½ yrs. Old. Their history is not complete, but they are beautiful, gentle, and friendly and Lady, the Mare, will take a saddle and has been ridden in the past. Baby is halter broke and is able to take a lead. However she needs to be trained. She is extremely social and loving as is Lady. They both love to be groomed and brushed. Their feet are in excellent shape. The vet has inoculated them and they have been recently wormed. The owner has agreed to allow me to put them up for adoption providing we find them a home and family. We would like them to stay in the area around Lexington if at all possible.
They are fine and happy in their pasture which has lots of beautiful grass and water, but they need a family and someone to care for them. When I am in Lexington I check on them and visit with them three times a week. However, as a Visiting Artist I am often out of town for weeks at a time, which leaves the group of volunteers to care for them. This was a hard winter and getting hay to them was difficult. If you know anyone who would like to adopt Lady and Her Baby please contact me:
